Stan Lee Biography- Stanley Martin Lieber, popularly known as Stan Lee, was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, media producer, television host, actor, and voice actor. He began his career working as an office boy for Marvel Comics—which meant bringing lunch, proof-reading, and refilling the artist’s ink jars, eventually proving his creative talents, in the interim. Childhood And Early Life

Career

Lee’s entry into Timely Comics in 1939 proved to be a major step in his career. He started out with bureaucratic work, but he soon made his comic-book debut with the ‘Captain America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge’ text filler.
In 1941, Lee began getting opportunities to do actual comics with a backup feature. He created ‘Destroyer in Mystic Comics No. 6’, ‘Jack Frost in USA Comics No. 1’ and ‘Father Time in Captain America Comics No. 6’.
When he was only 19 years old, due to conflict in the company and his growing creativity, Lee was made interim editor of the company and worked with the company for a good 31 years, mostly as editor-in-chief.

After ending his tenure with the military, Lee returned to the company now known as ‘Atlas Comics’ in the 1950s. He started experimenting with different genres – writing romantic, science-fiction, horror, comic stories etc.
Around the same time, he produced a newspaper strip with his collaborator Dan DeCarlo titled “My Friend Irma”, which was essentially based on a radio comedy starring Mary Wilson. Lee was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with his career.
In the late 1950s, in competition with DC Comics, Lee’s publisher, Goodman, asked him to form a new superhero team. Lee thought about working on stories he believed in because he was growing dissatisfied with his dreary career.

During the 1960s, he scripted, art-directed, and edited most of Marvel’s series, moderating the letter pages. He was also writing a monthly column ‘Stays Soapbox’. His job was very taxing but Lee was enjoying it for once.
In 1971, Lee was asked to write a story on the side effects of drugs and was considered for inclusion in The Amazing Spider-Man. The Comics Code Authority was against it because the depiction of drugs was against the code.
Lee and Goodman went ahead with it anyway and published the story in their own comics. The story really became famous and Marvel was applauded for spreading the responsible message. The CCA abolished the code and allowed negative depictions of drugs.

Lee’s role in the company was getting bigger and bigger as in 1981 he was given the role to develop Marvel’s TV and film properties, which required him to move to California with his family.
He was made president of the company, but Lee found the job a little more technical than he could handle. So he stepped down to become a publisher to be closer to the company’s creative processes.
In 1998, Lee started Stan Lee Media, a new Internet-based superhero production, production and marketing studio, with Peter Paul. The company grew and achieved considerable success but had to be closed due to legal implications.
He joined DC Comics for the first time in his creative career in 2000 when he started the series ‘Just Imagine…’ in which he recreated DC superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.
